140 Williams St, Melbourne
Located in the foyer of the miesian inspired former BHP house, Cocoa Bean sits at the centre of one of the most important modernist buildings in Australia. The creation of a cafe at the centre of this heritage listed tower (circa 1972 by Yuncken Freeman, Skidmore Owings and Merril) was one of challenge and respect for the modernist principals that governed the towers design. The result of the design, the quality materials and workmanship undertaken in collaboration with studio equator is one that sits in harmony with and as a delicate extension to the original tower.
